Universal’s epic drama-horror film “Dracula Untold” has just released its first official trailer to an online mass of eager fans (despite the trailer being leaked earlier). Set to the soulful tune of Lorde’s ‘Everybody Wants to Rule the World’ cover, the trailer gives us more insight into what to expect from the latest take on Dracula.
In this adaption, Luke Evans takes on the role of Vlad III Tepes, who strikes up a deal with a mythological creature (played by Game of Throne’s Charles Dance) in order to save his people from Turkish invaders. The film’s supporting cast includes the talented Dominic Cooper as Mehmed the Second, while Les Misérables star Samantha Barks, takes on the role of the evil witch Baba Yaga. From what we can tell, the film will delve into the origins of Vlad and the decisions he makes which leads to his decent into darkness. The films appears to seek understanding from the audience, painting a picture of a man who turned evil only out of the necessity to protect his loved ones.
First-time director, Gary Shore, looks to have favoured a grey and moody visual theme, which fits perfectly with the subject matter. We’re guessing Shore is set to become a studio darling thanks to his eye for sharp visuals and ability to nail those all-important dramatic scenes (having Luke Evans as the star certainly helps). Written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (the scribes of Summit Entertainment’s upcoming adventure film “Gods of Egypt”), “Dracula Untold” will hit cinemas on October 17th in the US and October 3rd in the UK.
