I have a long list of upcoming stars to keep an eye on. You might be surprised to see Daniel Radcliffe’s name on that list considering he spent his adolescence through to young adulthood portraying the most famous wizard in literature. No matter how big a star Radcliffe is, there’s no denying he’s moved into a totally different realm of working at his craft. Since the last Harry Potter filmed wrapped, Radcliffe has steadily built upon his acting resume, participating in everything from the hit play Equus, to trying his hand at rom-coms in The F Word, and portraying the famous Beat poet Allen Ginsberg in Kill Your Darlings.
Radcliffe’s latest film, titled Horns, is based on the 2010 novel of the same name by Joe Hill, and follows the story of Ig Perrish (Radcliffe), who is accused of the rape and murder of his girlfriend (Juno Temple). The fantasy-horror twist comes into play when Ig discovers that he possesses paranormal abilities, and sets about using them to find his girlfriend’s real killer. It’s a dark and thrilling premise, and with talent like Juno Temple and French director Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes, Maniac) thrown into the mix, Horns is sure to catapult Radcliffe towards a future of accolades.
The film has just seen the release of its first teaser trailer, which gives us glimpses into the dark direction taken by Aja. As Radcliffe’s Ig utters “no one is born evil…but sometimes, when you go through hell, the only way out is to walk deeper into the fire”, we see rapid cuts of angry townspeople, outlandish newspaper headlines and Ig – who has sprouted horns as part of his newfound powers. The film will be released in the UK on October 31 and you can bet SpicyPulp will be first in line to catch this daring journey in Radcliffe’s career.
