Dan Stevens is anything but nice in his brand new movie The Guest, and the new trailer for the upcoming thriller has finally been released, painting a larger picture of the chaos that is to come.
Still struggling over the loss of their oldest son, Caleb, to the war in Afghanistan, the Peterson family finds some solace when an unexpected visitor knocks on their door. David (Stevens), a steely eyed and charismatic soldier who was recently discharged, is welcomed into their home when he comes to fulfill a promise he made to his fallen comrade. Though he appears to be the perfect houseguest, a mysterious and sinister chain of events causes the family, and especially their eldest daughter Anna (Maika Monroe) to question whether David is actually who he claims to be.
Director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett (You’re Next) look to have crafted a very intense film, where the action comes unexpectedly and violently. The real score here though is Stevens as David, who on the surface might appear to be the steadfast and dashing man in uniform, but in reality has a very unsettling presence and persona. Whether it’s the fact that he tears through a group of high school bullies, or isn’t above using his now ripped physique to woo the impressionable Anna, David is one very scary houseguest.
The Guest has so far been praised by critics, with Fearnet calling it a “slick, fast, fun thriller flick”, and audiences should prepare themselves for the unexpected, and total chaos on September 5.
