With the release of the first official image of Jason Momoa as Aquaman for Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, there is now a real buzz about the character’s new badass look, and theories are beginning to circulate about how much of a role he might play in the upcoming film.
Momoa, who is busy promoting the second season of his television series The Red Road, took some time to talk with EW about his new look Aquaman, and how he’ll feature as the aquatic hero.
“It’s Batman and Superman,” says Momoa. “It’s not my movie. It’s the first time in history to have them both on the screen together, and I’m just excited to see those two up there…Justice League is still quite a ways away. But I’m looking forward to it. Henry’s a sweetheart, Ben is a badass, so I’m really looking forward to when we all shoot Justice League.”
Momoa also addressed his role as Aquaman with the expanding DC Cinematic Universe with a solo Aquaman movie due out on July 27, 2018. “There’s definitely a plan in this whole universe that [Zack Snyder] is designing,” Momoa continues, “and it’s amazing to be a part of it. I think everything that you see that is building, there’s a purpose behind the whole plan… What’s great about this is Zack, man. We don’t want to just reinvent it, but he’s a got a whole idea of what Aquaman should be and I’m really honored to be playing it. I’m excited for the world to see it.”
The star was also just as excited to see the first released image of himself, as well as the great reaction it got from fans.
“Zack Snyder called me up and said, “I’m posting this picture now.” He’s just a genius and I love him to death. He sent it over and we’re in the middle of the editing suite for the thing I’m doing right now, and we all freaked out, man. It was so amazing to see it come out.”
We can barely contain our excitement for Momoa’s Aquaman, as he appears to be the barbaric, zealot like King of Atlantis complete with fish scale tribal tattoos, and one very intimidating trident. I think it’s very clear that both Superman and Batman will have to watch their backs when Aquaman makes landfall in Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice on March 25, 2016.
