The 67th Emmy Awards took place just last night and now there’s only one name on everyone’s mind: Viola Davis.
The How to Get Away with Murder star took home the Emmy for best actress in a drama series, making history as the first black woman to do so in the prestigious category. In the series, Davis plays a brilliant, bold and seductive law professor named Annalise Keating who, along with her students, becomes entangled in a twisted murder plot.
In an impassioned speech, Davis quoted Harriet Tubman (whom she will be portraying in a forthcoming HBO movie), while also thanking fellow black actresses who helped pave the way for others. Make sure to watch the full speech below:
