Celebrated comic book writer Grant Morrison has confirmed that he is not only intrigued by Jared Leto’s Joker, but that he also offered him advice on how to get into character.
In an interview with Comic Heroes, reported in Games Radar, Morrison said that he finds Leto’s take “quite interesting”, and that “he [Leto] called me to talk about his approach to the character and I steered him in a few directions.” Morrison also said that he was “keen to see if anything other than slicked back hair and the Marilyn Manson vibe made it into his performance.”
Leto’s cast mates including Jai Courtney and Margo Robbie have already confirmed how committed Leto was to the character on set, and star Will Smith has now opened up about how he himself never actually met Leto on set.
In an interview with the Beats 1 radio show Smith said “I have never actually met Jared Leto. So we worked together for six months and we’ve never exchanged a word outside of ‘action’ and ‘cut.’ We’ve never said, ‘hello.’ We’ve never said, ‘good day.’ I’ve only ever spoken to him as Deadshot and him as The Joker. I literally have not met him yet … No, not a single word exchanged off camera. He was all in on the Joker.”
Audiences will get to experiences Leto’s madness in Suicide Squad on August 4, 2016 in Australia and New Zealand, and August 5, 2016 in the UK and USA.
