After a decade of rumours and false starts, HBO has confirmed that Deadwood is heading to the big screen.

HBO programming president Michael Lombardo has confirmed that Deadwood creator David Milch’s pitch has been greenlit, and that things are moving forward on the film. “He pitched what he thought generally the storyline would be – and knowing David that could change. But it’s going to happen.”

While Deadwood might have the go ahead, production could still take a while to begin with many of the series’ main stars such as Ian McShane, Timothy Olyphant, Kim Dickens and John Hawkes busy with other projects.
