Three days ago it was announced that Creed star Tessa Thompson had joined the cast of Thor: Ragnarok, and is rumoured to be playing a superhero of some kind that will also feature in other Marvel films. Since Natalie Portman is not returning as Dr. Jane Foster, it could be presumed that Thompson will step up as the female lead.
This is a fitting next step for the American actress, who has been impressing Hollywood insiders and film fans with roles in films like Dear White People, Selma and Creed. Her domination of the big screen is set to reach insane levels after the third Thor film, and her role in Alex Garland’s Annihilation. TV Land has also taken notice, casting Thompson in HBO’s upcoming Westworld series.
Whether she’s tackling comedy or more serious fare, Thompson is simply a joy to watch, and we can’t wait to see her go face to face with Hemsworth’s strong-willed Thor.
Thor: Ragnarok will be directed by Taika Waititi (Boy, Hunt for the Wilderpeople) and will also star fan favourite Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Jamie Alexander, Mark Ruffalo, and of course, Chris Hemsworth. The film is set for release on November 3, 2017.
