It’s one of 2016’s most anticipated films, and Michael Fassbender is ready to go in the first trailer for Assassin’s Creed.
Based on the video game franchise of the same name, Assassin’s Creed follows the enigmatic Callum Lynch (Fassbender) who is able to tap into the memories of his ancestor Aguiler, a member of the Assassins in 15th century Spain. Battling across two distinct timelines, Lynch must learn the skills of his ancestors to defeat the Templars – the age-old enemies of the Assassins – and save mankind from oblivion.
Directed by Fassbender’s Macbeth
The new trailer highlights Fassbender’s stellar blade and freerunning skills, and pits him against a fearsome adversary in the form of Marion Cotillard’s Sophia Rikken, daughter of the all-powerful Alan Rikken, portrayed by Jeremy Irons. Director Justin Kurzel is also utilising the film’s setting of the Spanish Inquisition to great effect, which will serve to propel the film’s action narrative forward at full force.
Assassin’s Creed will be released in cinemas on December 21 is the US and UK, and on January 1, 2017 in New Zealand and Australia.
