With countless sequels, remakes, reboots and reimaginings hitting cinemas this year, it’s refreshing to have films like Jaume Collet-Serra’s The Shallows to look forward to.

This latest trailer is by far the best, teasing the horrifying ordeal that young pro surfer Nancy (Blake Lively) goes through after being attacked by a great white shark. With Collet-Serra (Run All Night, Orphan) at the helm, it’s safe to say this will be one nail-biter of a watch.

While Jaws fans are sure to love every minute the great white dominates the screen, the story itself looks to be offering more than just a game of cat and mouse. With self reliance being the theme of the trailer, it’s clear Lively’s Nancy will have to overcome more than her fears of becoming dinner. With her friends eaten and no one around to help, it’ll be up to this new heroine to trust herself and come up with a plan fast.

The Shallows is set to terrify audiences when it’s released on June 24 in the US, July 1 in the UK and on August 25 in New Zealand and Australia.
