After proving that he had the charisma and grit to play Lee Child’s formidable modern day anti-hero, Jack Reacher, in 2012, Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise is stepping it up once more for Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. Here’s the synopsis:
After slipping away from authorities in Pittsburgh, Jack Reacher is once again on the road, and is drawn back to his old military unit, the 110th Special Investigations Unit in New Orleans. Arriving in the Big Easy, Reacher makes contact with its new commander, Major Susan Turner (Cobie Smoulders), who has been framed in a dense and twisted conspiracy. With nowhere to turn, and a kill team on stand-by, Reacher and Turner go on the run together to bring down those responsible for framing her.
Based in part on Lee Child’s 18th Reacher novel, Never Go Back, the film reteams Cruise with former collaborator Ed Zwick (The Last Samurai). Based on the new trailer it appears that Zwick has maintained the hard edge of the first film, grounding the action in realism and bringing a raw edge to the cinematography and setting.
Part of the fun of Never Go Back is the inclusion of Cobie Smoulders as tough and tenacious Army MP Susan Turner. Not only does Smoulders keep up with Cruise on the action front, but she’ll really give him a run for his money with her sharp wit, which should prove interesting given Reacher’s stance as a ‘man of few words’.
Cruise proved he could kick some serious ass as Reacher back in 2012, and there’ll be more guys for him to take out when Jack Reacher: Never Go Back arrives in theatres on October 20 in New Zealand and Australia and on October 21 in the US and UK.
