Some stories are just too damn funny to be kept under wraps, so it’s just as well this (sort of ) true tale of two out of control brothers has come to fruition.

Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates follows Dave (Zac Efron) and Mike (Adam DeVine), who are made to find wedding dates for their sister’s upcoming wedding in Hawaii. While the brothers are determined to find nice girls, what they get are two unhinged girls in the form of Aubrey Plaza’s Tatiana and Anna Kendrick’s Alice.

As a team, this young foursome crushed it.

I haven’t laughed this hard or this much in a while, and that’s mostly thanks to the comedic timing and raw chemistry between Efron and DeVine. It’s not hard to believe these two as brothers (in both funny and dramatic moments), and it’s even more of a treat to watch them play off one another, creating some unforgettable moments,

Plaza and Kendrick steal the show on more than one occasion, relishing every moment as these very bad girls. They are troubled, fun, smart, silly, crazy, confident and insecure all at once, and it’s such a treat to see these rounded characters face off with the brothers, and give as hard as they get.

When it comes to scene stealers, there are two names that come to mind: Stephanie Beard, who plays Mike and Dave’s sister Jeanie, and Alice Wetterlund, who plays their cousin Terry. Beard, a skilled voice actor, takes the role of ‘bride to be’ and really flips the script, giving the four leads a run for their money in the comedy department, and owning every bit of screen time (thankfully she appeared more than I originally expected her to). Wetterland, who you might know from Silicon Valley, provides many of the film’s laugh out loud moments, offering a character that’s wonderfully shameless and relentless in her rivalry with Mike.

If you’re keen to see some real legends in action and laugh hard in the process, then Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates is a cinematic event you won’t want to miss. Bring your mates and prepare for a lesson in hard partying, risky stunts, and questionable massage techniques.
