Multi-talented performer Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (The Tudors, Dracula) is taking on the role of the legendary punk rock icon Joe Strummer in the turbulent coming-of-age drama London Town.
The film follows 14-year-old Johnny (Tom Hughes) who is introduced to world of punk rock in the late 1970s, and sets out to discover who he is in this burgeoning music setting, which leads him to meet his rock idol, Joe Strummer (Meyers), leader of The Clash.
Meyers looks particularly amped as Strummer and appears to be putting his talent for music to good use as the loud and opinionated frontman. Meyer’s performance has so far been universally praised, and director Derrick Borte has included a terrific soundtrack that features bands such as The Buzzcocks, The Stranglers, Willie Williams and of course, The Clash.
London Town will be released in the US on October 7, and in the UK on October 11.
