Taika Waititi is a pretty big deal.

With a number of successful films under his belt including this year’s Hunt for the Wilderpeople, it’s no wonder Marvel took notice and hired him to direct Thor: Ragnarok. But being the cool guy he is, Waititi hasn’t forgotten the fans, and will be teaming up with What We Do in the Shadows co-writer and co-director Jemaine Clement to create a spin-off TV series called Paranormal Event Response Unit.

Funded by NZ On Air, the series will follow police officers Karen and Mike, as they attempt to keep the people of Wellington, New Zealand safe from supernatural creatures.

NZ On Air representative Jane Wrightson commented on the project, saying “Comedy is serious business and notoriously hard to get right. We are delighted that Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi are bringing their talents to smaller screens.”

The series will be airing on TVNZ 2. We’ll be sure to update you when an international distributor has been found.
