Academy Award winning director Ang Lee has long been considered a master filmmaker who continues to astonish with each new film. But his latest work, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, could very well be his masterpiece.
Check out the new trailer below:
Here’s the synopsis:
After a bloody tour of duty young veteran Pvt. Billy Lynn (Joe Alwyn) returns home to America and is branded a hero after a heroic action during combat. Sent out on a victory tour by the Department of Defense he begins to open up about the tragic events that occurred on that fateful day, and how they have shaped him into the man he now is.
Billy Lynn appears to be a piece of cinema that celebrates both American’s patriotic nature, while also analysing the tragic effects that the Iraq War has had on the young men and women who served. While the film certainly appears to have a grand sense of spectacle and scale, Lee focuses his camera on the emotional range of his actors, who are trying to make sense of a very difficult world.
Newcomer Joe Alwyn astonishes as the shellshocked Lynn, and receives support from Kristen Stewart, Garrett Hedlund, Steve Martin and Vin Diesel in very committed performances.
Early critics have praised Ang’s latest work as a cinematic game changer, and it is almost a certainty that Billy Lynn will see nominations from the Academy as award season approaches.
Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk is set to be released on November 10 in New Zealand and Australia and on November 11 in the US and UK.
