Following his work on last year’s epic fantasy adventure Warcraft, visionary director Duncan Jones is finally bringing his long-awaited semi-sequel to Moon to life. Titled Mute, this intriguing science-fiction film stars Alexander Skarsgard, and based on the newly released images (below) it looks like it’s going to be a total trip.
Set forty years in the future in Berlin, Leo Beiler (Skarsgard) is a bartender who is trying to make his way in a city that is teeming with immigrants and where hope is little and far between. Because of a childhood accident he has been left without the ability to speak and the only thing that he holds onto in his life is the presence his girlfriend Naadirah (Seyneb Saleh). But when she mysteriously disappears Leo begins a desperate search that leads him to a pair of wise-cracking American surgeons (Paul Rudd, Justin Theroux), and he soon finds himself plunged into the abyss of Berlin’s seedy underground.
Jones has commented that Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner played an integral part in his realising of the film, and it’s readily apparent that Mute‘s visuals crackle with the same future noir tinge that were first presented by Scott.
Jones is directing Mute exclusively for distribution on Netflix, and this intriguing science fiction film will make its way to the platform later this year.
