20th Century Fox continues to own the superhero genre with brilliant comic book adaptations on both the big and small screens with titles like Deadpool and Legion. Now the studio is taking audiences into the reality of what it would be like to find yourself with mutant powers in The Gifted.
Check out the new trailer below:
Here’s the synopsis:
Set in contemporary America, The Gifted follows twins Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind) and Andy Strucker (Percy Hynes White) who with the onset of puberty suddenly manifest mutant abilities. With nowhere to turn their panicked parents Reed (Stephen Moyer) and Caitlin (Amy Acker) find their family caught up with an underground group of mutant survivors who might be able to protect them.
The Gifted looks to be a compelling watch that poses heart wrenching questions related to family, tolerance and the need to be accepted. Both Moyer and Acker appear to have great chemistry and determination as the elder Struckers, while Lind and White are perfectly cast.
Long time X-Men fans will also be pleased to see the appearance of cult characters John Proudstar/Thunderbird (Blair Redford), Clarice Fong/Blink (Jamie Chung) and Lorna Dane/Polaris (Emma Dumont). All three characters have a frenzied survivalism to them and appear to be familiar with the darker actions of humanity.
With its unique setting and original narrative, The Gifted will be a definite must-watch when it is released later this year.
