Anyone who has battled with an eating disorder or witnessed firsthand the debilitating consequences of anorexia will know it’s never just about being thin. Emotional scars, feelings of loss and hurt, control, and fear all come into play, and that’s exactly what director Marti Noxon is tackling in her upcoming film To The Bone.
Here’s the official synopsis:
A young anorexic woman (Lily Collins) reluctantly enters an unconventional treatment program, where she bonds with other residents struggling with eating disorders.
The first trailer for the film was just released today, and shows off the film’s serious and funny sides, as well as the wonderful cast which includes True Blood‘s Carrie Preston, Lili Taylor, and Keanu Reeves.
To The Bone has received quite a bit of attention since it’s premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, particularly around star Lily Collins’ dedication to getting her weight down for the role (with the assistance of doctors and nutritionists). Collins herself has struggled with eating disorders in the past, making the project undoubtedly personal for her.
It looks like the actress has put an incredible amount of thought into the role, playing up Ellen’s emotional struggles as much as the all-important physical side.
To The Bone will be released on Netflix July 14.
