Karen Gillan’s outfit makes so much more sense now that we’ve seen the epic first trailer for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

The upcoming sequel is quite a departure from the 1995 film, instead using a vintage video game as the portal into a crazy jungle. Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Gillan are in fact playing four teenagers who find themselves sucked into the game, with their ‘characters’ being remarkably different than their appearances in the real world. Check out the trailer below:

The trailer is a really fun watch, and teases plenty of humorous moments between the four heroic leads. Karen Gillan in particular looks in tip top shape, and is leading the charge on more than one occasion.

Interestingly, when the first images for the film were released, Gillan’s costume caused quite a stir, with fans seeing no reason why the only female lead should be wearing short shorts and a crop top in a harsh jungle setting. Though given the nature of the old video game (and we all know how they like to dress women in video games), it all makes sense now…and will hopefully provide plenty of opportunity to poke fun at the cliche.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle will be released on December 22 in the US and UK and on January 4, 2018 in New Zealand and Australia.
