Hot on the heels of a spectacularly clever teaser promotion, the first teaser trailer for Marvel’s Ant-Man has finally been released.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Armed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
With this brand new teaser, Marvel has officially set up what will be an end to Phase Two of its cinematic universe, while revealing the next big hero in Scott Lang/Ant-Man played by the very talented Paul Rudd. Known more for his comedic work in films such as Anchorman and Role Models, Rudd looks to have transformed himself as Lang, a professional thief who isn’t afraid to start a fight, and who has the guts to step up when he’s called upon. Rudd also looks to have taken his role very seriously by stacking on some serious muscle which reportedly forced his costume to be altered to accommodate his extra size.
Also present in the trailer are Evangeline Lily as Lang’s love interest and foil Hope Van Dyne, a sassy and confident business woman who can hold her own, especially with a rogue like Lang. Corey Stoll steps in as antagonist/corporate titan Darren Cross, and Michael Douglas is on board as the original Ant-Man himself Hank Pym, creator of the Ant-Man technology and the man who enlists Lang to help him plan a heist that could save the world.
Ant-Man, like its cosmic predecessor Guardians Of The Guardians, is taking the Marvel Universe in a new direction. Filled with the usual larger than life characters and super heroics, Ant-Man is also being touted as Marvel’s heist film with the character of Scott Lang (much like the Guardians) being initially a less than honourable character.
Get ready for July 17 and the arrival of a new Marvel sensation.
