“Stars, hide your fires; Let not light see my black and deep desires.” – Macbeth, Act One, Scene Four.
William Shakespeare’s most maddening and darkest tragedy has been brought back to the screen with a vengeance by director Justin Kurzel (Snowtown), who with two of Hollywood’s biggest stars, Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, has breathed new life into the classic tale of Macbeth, which has just debuted two tantalizing clips, promising a breathtaking Shakespearian epic!
The first, dubbed ‘Coronation’, finds Macbeth being crowned as King of all Scotland following the murder of King Duncan by his own hands, and at the will and encouragement of his devious wife. The scene is notable for it’s massive scale, as well as giving us our first look at Shawn Harris and Elizabeth Debicki as Lord and Lady MacDuff.
The second clip, dubbed ‘Battle’, takes us to the grit and grim of the battlefield, as Macbeth leads his army into battle. Shot with substance, and style, Kurzel pays clear tribute to the film’s historical time period, capturing all of it’s grit and grime and fury in beautiful slow motion.
Macbeth will definitely be a game changing experience, that will have to be experienced up on the big screen when its released later this year.
