It’s time to get cool SpicyPulpers, real cool, because those badass south of the border modern day cowboys known as the Gecko Brothers, and the gorgeously, deadly vampire queen Santanico Pandemonium are on their way back for the second season of From Dusk Till Dawn.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kurt Volk, VP and Creative Director for El Rey Network spoke about the upcoming season and what fans can expect from the return of Seth (D.J. Cotrona) and Richie Gekko (Zane Holtz), Santanico Pandemonium (Eiza González), and Carlos Madrigal (Wilmer Valderrama), where he teased that darkness is coming for all the characters. “We’re in the second act of the story, and it’s taken a dark turn. If season one was the day, season two is definitely the night.”
For those still not up to date Season One ended with the Gecko brothers going their separate ways with Seth leaving with Katie Fuller, and Richie riding off with vampire goddess Santanico. Expanding on the new season, and the debut poster, Volk said, “the Gecko brothers have split up, and now it’s all about the new pairings. This composition really appealed to us — she’s a goddess, and Richie is evolving.”
Volk also teased out the new setting for the series which will feature less Aztec ruins and catacombs, replacing them with the sun drenched southwest urban landscape. “The cool blue palette is a thread throughout the season. During season one, our characters spent a lot of time in the middle of nowhere. This season, they spend a lot of time in the city. As a result, the series has a slicker, more urban sensibility, and that is definitely reflected in our design.”
Director Robert Rodriguez, along with El Rey Networks and Miramax films are preparing to showcase the world premiere of season two of From Dusk Till Dawn this weekend at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema’s Ritz Movie Theater in Austin, Texas, ahead of its August 25 general. The Geckos are on their way back. So stay cool.
