2015 has been a good year for Alicia Vikander, particularly with all the Oscar buzz surrounding her recent performance in The Danish Girl. According to The Wrap, the Swedish actor is now being circled to replace Rooney Mara in the Dragon Tattoo series for the upcoming film The Girl in the Spider’s Web.
However, it’s not only Mara who’s is departing the series, with co-star Daniel Craig and director David Fincher also rumoured to be moving on.
While Sony had originally planned to tackle The Girl Who Played With Fire, the powers that be have since decided to adapt Spider’s Web, the fourth novel by the late Stieg Larsson. Mara was in fact Oscar nominated for her performance as hacker Lisbeth Salander; a well-deserved nod given her electrifying presence and dedication to the role. While it’s a shame that she won’t be returning, the prospect of Vikander in the role is certainly exciting.
