Emmy award winner Damian Lewis took audiences on quite a ride with Homeland, and now he’s back as a character who could be even more complex than Sgt. Nicholas Brody in Showtime’s new corporate thriller Billions.
Lewis stars as hedge fund superstar Bobby ‘Axe’ Axelrod who dominates Wall Street as one of its biggest players, and who is seen as almost Gatsby-like with his vast fortune, and exalted for his large philanthropic endeavours. But not all is what it seems with Axelrod, and U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhodes (Paul Giamatti) is determined to bring down Axe for securities fraud by any means necessary.
While we can expect some bitter sparring sessions between Lewis and Giamatti, they’re not the only ones who’ll be trading punches. Their characters’ equally ambitious wives, Wendy Rhodes (Maggie Siff) and Lara Axelrod (Malin Akerman), have plenty of bite in the game, and have no desire to lose either.
Billions is on course to reinvent the corporate thriller, and will provide an in-depth look into the world’s relationship and obsession with money.
Billions is set to premiere on January 17.
