Lionsgate’s big screen adaptation of the 1990s kids TV show, Power Rangers, has just scored a big star.
Elizabeth Banks, who is known for her work in front and behind the camera on the Pitch Perfect films, has been cast to play villain Rita Repulsa in the Dean Israelite-directed flick. An iconic original villain of the popular series, Rita is a wicked humanoid alien witch determined to take over the planet.
This is certainly a different character for Banks, who has primarily played comedic roles. She most recently portrayed the unique and colourful Effie Trinket in the Hunger Games film franchise, which makes me think she has the goods to take on a darker persona.
Power Rangers will hit cinemas March 24, 2017.
