Rise of The Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt has boarded Fox’s latest drama pilot, The Exorcist, along with Jeremy Slater (Fantastic Four), who has been hired to write the script.

The series is set to be a modern interpretation of the 1971 book by William Blatty – the same novel that inspired the iconic 1973 film – and will follow the journey of two very different men tackling one family’s case of demonic possession.

The Exorcist (1973) followed the demonic possession of a 12-year-old girl named Regan, and the desperate attempts by her mother (Ellen Burstyn) to save her. The film was a huge hit and went on to win two Academy Awards for Best Sound Mixing and Best Adapted Screenplay (a rare honour bestowed on horror films).

Here’s hoping that Wyatt and Slater can create something unique and truly scary for the small screen version.
