Jared Leto is channeling pure method madness in Suicide Squad, with previous reports stating that he terrorised his co-stars with morbid gifts. However, according to Leto’s co-star Viola Davis, things were creepier than we initially thought.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, the Emmy winner said:
“The Joker – he did some bad things, Jared Leto did. He gave some really horrific gifts. He had a henchman who came into the rehearsal room … with a dead pig and plopped it on the table, and then he walked out. And that was our introduction to Jared Leto.”
To say Davis was terrified would be an understatement, given her description of just how uneasy she felt at the time. “Now, I’m terrified, just as a person, thinking, ‘Is he crazy?’. But the second part was, ‘Oh, s–t, I’ve gotta have my stuff together.’ You talk about commitment, and then he sends Margot Robbie a black rat. It was still alive, in a box. She screamed. And then she kept it.”
But the Emmy award-winning actress was genuinely impressed by Leto’s absolute commitment to his role, and this spurred her on in her own commitment to government mastermind Amanda Waller, who utilises the Suicide Squad to her own advantage.
You can bet that we’re excited to see just how far Leto will take his performance as The Clown Prince of Crime when Suicide Squad is released in cinemas in Australia and New Zealand on August 4, and in the US and UK on August 5.
