While it has been a tumultuous journey for the Pacific Rim sequel, the film is now back on track, with celebrated TV showrunner and producer Steven S. DeKnight set to make his directorial debut.
Deadline has reported that DeKnight will direct the sequel from a screenplay by Jon Speights, which will feature the characters originally created by Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham.
While we were hoping to see the return of Guillermo del Toro, given his superb and unique talent as a director, the prospect of DeKnight’s involvement is very intriguing. Not only has he brought a good dose of intensity back to action television with the likes of Spartacus and the first season of Daredevil, but he’s quickly proving to be a hot commodity in Hollywood.
No production date has been set yet, and it is assumed that stars Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi will be returning as Raleigh and Mako. We’ll keep you updated as more details emerge about the project, but for now, consider us excited.
