We’re eagerly counting the days until we can see Margot Robbie rock the big screen as Harley Quinn in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, and the talented actress recently opened up about her new look and the process behind it.

In an interview with Hello Giggles, Robbie opened about the design process that went into the creation of the feature film’s adaptation of Harley, and how a lot of thought was put into how Harley would be portrayed on screen. “Oh, we tried on every variation of the costume,” said Robbie. “I cannot emphasise enough how many outfits, and how many variations of the Harley Quinn costume we tried. We tried the court jester costume, we tried the corset and skirt, we tried leather pants, we tried literally every type of costume possible for her. I really love where we ended up. And who knows, maybe in the sequels we’ll go with the court jester one. I think there’s a world of possibilities.”

While Harley is known for her much-loved red and black diamond adorned jester jumpsuit, her character and costume have undergone many changes through the years. A significant change to the character came in feature length video games, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, which used the motif of a nurse costume, and female biker leathers to construct a new look which consisted of a leather corset, short skirt, and rock glam makeup. This has now become a staple of the cosplay community, and has influenced her current look in DC’s New 52 version of the Suicide Squad.

While Ayer has clearly modelled his Harley on the New 52 version, he’s also taken her civilian look into consideration with the film’s flashback scenes, which mirrors her first appearance in ‘Mad Love’. It’s also clear that Ayer has thrown his own mixture of punk rock into the mix, particularly with the copious level of tattoos, which scream lunacy and madness.

So what do you think SpicyPulpers? Are you a fan of the new look? Or do you want to see the jester costume somehow worked into future films?
