We love surprises here at SpicyPulp, especially when they involve one of our favourite film franchises in history.
While it was announced late last year that a fifth Indiana Jones movie was in the works, it wasn’t yet confirmed whether or not Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford would return…until now. According to THR, the franchise’s original star and director have officially signed on, with a release date set for July 19, 2019.
With Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Jurassic World proving just how lucrative long-awaited sequels can be, the decision is a no brainer for Walt Disney Studios. Alan Horn, the company’s chairman, released a statement on the announcement:
“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019. It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”
Lucasfilm’s president Kathleen Kennedy, and frequent collaborator Frank Marshall will produce the latest addition to the franchise, which will also hopefully introduce some fresh faces.
