Aaron Sorkin is one of Hollywood’s most revered screenwriters, and will soon start filming his directorial debut, Molly’s Game. The film, which is also set to be written by Sorkin, will tell the true story of Molly Bloom, a rejected Olympic skiing hopeful who put her business-skills to good use by running a high-stakes poker game until being caught a decade later.
The Martian‘s Jessica Chastain has already been in talks to play Bloom, and it has now been reported that Idris Elba (Beasts of No Nation) will be joining the actress as the titular character’s only ally, her defense lawyer.
In a statement to Variety, Sorkin said:
“The casting of Jessica and Idris in the two lead roles is any filmmaker’s dream come true. They’re two of the greatest actors of their generation, paired for the first time, and their chemistry will be electric.”
If all goes well the film could very well make for some hearty Oscar bait. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this one.
