We may be halfway through 2016, but the movie gods are far from finished with us.
With so many more nerdalicious films still to come, we’ll have to hold off on writing that ‘best of 2016’ list. Here are 10 films we can’t wait to see before the year is up:
1. Star Trek Beyond
This will be a difficult watch for fans of Anton Yelchin, but exciting nonetheless for Trekkies everywhere. With Fast and the Furious (3-6) director Justin Lin taking over from J.J. Abrams (he’s a bit busy right now), the next installment has be given a fresh spin and hopefully a solid villain in Krall (Idris Elba).
2. Suicide Squad
The worst of the worst are coming to a cinema near you soon and we are beyond excited for this one. With Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, Captain Boomerang, El Diablo, and Deadshot appearing, you know this is going to be one big thrillride. But despite all the big-time villains, it’s mastermind Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) that we’re most intrigued by.
Despite running the very serious risk of ruining childhoods everywhere, this reboot of the 1980’s film franchise is set to be released in cinemas everywhere this weekend. Directed by Paul Feig and starring four very funny ladies (Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon), the film is projected to own the box office.
4. Jason Bourne
Paul Greengrass is directing and Matt Damon is back as Bourne. Need we say more?
5. Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them
Based on the J.K. Rowling book of the same name, the film stars Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne and Steve Jobs’ Katherine Waterston. Interestingly, J.K. Rowling also wrote the screenplay, making it her screenwriting debut.
Disney is finally getting its first Polynesian princess in this upcoming animated flick which will feature the vocal stylings of Dwayne Johnson. You know we love us some Rock.
7. Assassin’s Creed
Michael Fassbender is starring in this adaptation of the enormously popular video games. The trailers have teased some epic action scenes with Fassbender’s Callum Lynch proving handy with a blade.
8. Sausage Party
Adults who are sick of sing-a-longs and pleasant storylines in animated films will love Sausage Party. So much innuendo happening in the trailers we don’t know where to begin.
9. Doctor Strange
The final Marvel release of the year sees Benedict Cumberbatch playing the titular characters and Tilda Swinton playing The Ancient One. The cast is solid and the trailer looks amazing.
10. Star Wars: Rogue One
Set in the same universe as Star Wars, Rogue One stars Felicity Jones, Alan Tudyk, Ben Mendelsohn and Forest Whitaker. The film will follow a group of Rebel fighters that band together to steal the plans for the Death Star. Big mission = big movie.
