SDCC 2016: Surprise ‘Blair Witch’ movie announced at Comic-Con – watch the trailer here
So it turns out that The Woods, a horror film collaboration between Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett, was actually just a front for the real project: Blair Witch.
Blair Witch was just announced during Comic-Con today, and is a direct sequel to the 1999 found footage horror The Blair Witch Project. The film follows a group of college students who enter the Black Hills Forest in Maryland to investigate the mysteries around the disappearance of one of the group’s siblings, whose tragedy might be connected to the legend of the Blair Witch.
The Blair Witch Project is perhaps one of the most significant films in the modern horror genre, given it box office success ($248 million worldwide to be exact), and how it kicked off the sub-genre of found footage horror.
Director Adam Wingard is most definitely the perfect man to bring this story to life, having haunted audiences with You’re Next and crushing all signs of Dan Steven’s Downton Abbey character in 2014’s The Guest.
Blair Witch will be released September 16.
