Video game adaptations are on a roll at the moment with Assassin’s Creed set to be released at the end of the year, and Alicia Vikander readying to take on the role of Lara Croft. And now talented thespian Jessica Chastain is set to get in on the action alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in a big screen adaptation of Ubisoft’s The Division.
Variety reported that Chastain is in talks to join the project alongside Gyllenhaal, who will also produce. The film would adapt the fast-paced action thriller video game for the big screen which follows a clandestine Special Forces unit of the Strategic Homeland Division, codenamed ‘The Division’, who are sent in to restore order to the city of New York after a deadly smallpox pandemic ravages the island.
Ubisoft is actively developing its properties for film and television, and while there are no known plot details at the moment we suspect that a feature adaptation of The Division would likely work in the same vain as Assassin’s Creed, with Ubisoft looking to extend the world of the game, and tell a whole new story specific to a cinematic setting.
