Following in the footsteps of the critical and blockbuster success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the brand new trailer for Star Wars: Rogue One promises epic action, great characters and a story that’ll have audiences gripped.

Fans were offered an exciting first look at Rogue One during this year’s Star Wars Celebration event, and now the new trailer has been made available as a part of this year’s Olympic Games.

Set before the appearance of Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa and Han Solo, Star Wars: Rogue One finds the Rebel Alliance in its infancy and facing mass odds against the colossal Galactic Empire and its terrifying commander Darth Vader. When the rebels stumble upon the plans of the mysterious Death Star weapon, it’s up to a crack team and reluctant new recruit Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) to infiltrate the base and steal the plans before it can become operational.

Rising directing talent Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) is helming Rogue One, which is the first in a series of Star Wars spinoff films that will expand the scope of the Star Wars universe, and explore exciting new stories.

Edwards has assembled an impressive ensemble cast for this new feature, most notably Felicity Jones as the rough and tumble Jyn Erso. Her squad mates include stoic rebel officer Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), spirited pilot Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed), the zen warrior Chirrut Inwe (Donnie Yen), freelance assassin Baze Malbus (Jiang Wen), and re-programmed battle droid K-2SO (Alan Tudyk). The cast also features the likes of Forrest Whitaker as the intense Alliance veteran Saw Gerrera, Ben Mendelsohn as icy Imperial Director Orsen Krenic, and will also see the return of the legendary James Earl Jones as the voice of Darth Vader.

Star Wars: Rogue One will be released in cinemas on December 15 in Australia and New Zealand and December 16 in the US and UK.
