Tensions are high in first ‘Quarry’ trailer
Cinemax has been experiencing an awesome period of reinvention over the last few years thanks to shows such as Banshee, The Knick and Outsider, and now the network is heading into the seedy criminal underbelly of the Deep South with criminal thriller Quarry.
Based upon the best-selling crime novels by Max Allan Collins, Quarry follows disillusioned Vietnam War veteran Mac Conway (Logan Marshall-Green), who upon returning to his hometown of Memphis is drawn into its seedy underbelly where his combat skills give him an edge as a hitman. But suffering with PTSD and having to hide his new life from his beloved wife Joni (Jodi Balfour), may soon take its toll.
The new series looks to be upholding the same level of ultra-violence that we’ve come to expect from Cinemax, and Green appears to have thrown himself into the haunted character of Conway. Showrunners Graham Gordy and Michael D. Fuller have also entrenched the show in its Vietnam setting with a vocal use of the counterculture, anti-war movement and the burgeoning war on drugs that would shape the era.
Quarry is set to premiere on September 9.
