Hope you weren’t planning on sleeping tonight folks because EW has just revealed the full costume that Bill Skarsgård will be donning in Andrés Muschietti’s upcoming film adaptation of IT.
Created by award-winning costume designer Janie Bryant (Mad Men), the eerie costume draws on Medieval, Renaissance, Elizabethan and Victorian eras for inspiration.
“There is almost a doll-like quality to the costume. The pants being short, the high waistline of the jacket, and the fit of the costume is a very important element. It gives the character a child-like quality,” Bryant says.
Pennywise is arguably one of Stephen King’s most famous villains, and was first played on the small screen by Tim Curry in the 1999 mini series. However, Pennywise doesn’t always appear as a clown, and can actually shapeshift into its prey’s biggest fear.
It will be released in cinemas on September 7, 2017 in New Zealand and Australia and on September 8, 2017 in the US and UK.
