We’re absolutely pumped for the premiere of Luke Cage, and now our hype is about to go through the roof thanks to a new look at the score in a new promo titled ‘Street Level Hero Music’.
The clip focuses on the production’s desire to bring a real life Harlem vibe to the series through the use of a contemporary and compelling hip-hop score. Producers Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad, along with rapper A$AP Ferg and hip-hop legend Method Man have all worked behind-the-scenes to create something special, describing each individual episode as its own mini album.
Method Man commented on the role of hip-hop in the series saying, “Marvel has always had its finger on the pulse of pop culture, and this right here is just taking it even further.”
Series star Mike Colter commented on the music’s impact on the series saying that “it just gives it a real solid feel and I think people will relate to that, and it creates the world for us.”
Hip-hop culture is so rooted in the series that showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker even looked to legendary group Gang Starr when naming the thirteen individual episodes.
This is one album we can’t wait to blast, and we’ll be keeping an eye out for it when Luke Cage premieres on Netflix on September 30.
