Joe Manganiello cast as Deathstroke in solo ‘Batman’ film
After countless rumours and an epic tease from star Ben Affleck, Variety has now confirmed that the hunky Joe Manganiello has now been cast in the role of lethal mercenary Slade Wilson/Deathstroke in the live action DC Cinematic Universe.
Manganiello’s casting was confirmed via DC Comics CCO Geoff Johns in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, and comes a week or so after star Ben Affleck teased audiences with an on-set video which showcased Deathstroke.
We couldn’t be more excited with the confirmation of Manganiello’s casting, as the character of Deathstroke required a forceful performer who could go head-to-head with Affleck’s more brutal Batman. At 6’5 and a solid 230 pounds, Manganiello will definitely be able to handle anything that the Dark Knight throws at him, and his size and dominance as a performer will make for a great villain.
Manganiello has long been a fan favourite of Warner Brothers, and was seriously considered for the role of Clark Kent/Superman alongside Henry Cavill (even being measured for the costume), and was also on the shortlist for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
But we’re more than happy that he’ll get to flex his muscles as the lethal villain Deathstroke, who will be the main villain that will menace Affleck’s Batman in his solo Batman film, which will be released sometime after 2018.
