Revered not only as one of the best actors of his generation, but also as one of the world’s most handsome men, Matthew McConaughey is throwing his good looks away for a rock’n’roll tale of excessive wealth in Gold.
When unlucky businessman Kenny Wells (McConaughey) finds evidence of an untapped gold resource in the Indonesian jungle, he teams up with geologist Michael Acosta (Édgar Ramírez), in a chance to strike it rich.
Based on a sensational true story, Gold has been one of Hollywood’s best kept secrets, attracting directors such as Michael Mann and Spike Lee, and stars like Christian Bale at one time or another. Now director Stephen Gaghan (Syriana) is on hand as director, and he’s channelling 1980’s greed and capitalistic sentiment in a story of one man who got a chance to have it all.
Gold will be released in cinemas on December 25 in the US and UK.
