Disney’s first Polynesian princess is no damsel by the looks of the latest trailer, which is heavy on the action and spot on with the comedy.
Set 2000 years ago in the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania, a born navigator called Moana (Auli’i Cravalho) sets sail in search of a fabled island. It’s during her journey that she teams up with her hero, the legendary demi-god, Maui (Dwayne Johnson).
Not only does Moana boast Thor: Ragnarok’s Taika Waiti as one of its writers, but it also features music from the genius behind Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda. With talent like that on the credits, Disney is all but guaranteed a hit, and maybe even the Academy Award for Best Animated Film.
Joining Dwayne Johnson and newcomer Auli’i Cravalho in the cast is Nicole Scherzinger as Moana’s mother, Sina, Temuera Morrison as Moana’s father, Chief Tui, and Alan Tudyk as pet rooster Hei Hei.
Moana is set for release on November 23 in the US, and on December 26 in New Zealand and Australia.
