While we’re kind of over-saturated with comic book movies and TV shows at the moment, you can bet you’ll get a solid kick from the crazy first trailer for Officer Downe.
Based on the underground graphic novel by creators Joe Casey and Chris Burnham, Officer Downe has been adapted to the screen by Slipknot’s Shawn Crahan (better known as Clown) in his directorial debut. The film follows the exploits of Officer Downe (Kim Coates), a long-dead police officer who is continually resurrected to fight crime and enforce the law.
Crahan has teamed up with producer Mark Neveldine (Crank) to bring this completely mad tale to the big screen, and he appears to have done a terrific job with the material. Officer Downe has everything from zombified police officers and gun running nuns to kung fu street ninjas and one very messed up monster gang lord. Crahan’s visual approach to Officer Downe appears to draw inspiration from classic grindhouse cinema, as well as his work with Slipknot.
Kim Coates, who is best known for his work on Sons of Anarchy as Alexander ‘Tig’ Trager, steps up to lead the film as the titular character. Not only is he levelling a very big gun at the bad guys, but he’s bringing a unique mix of serious drama, kick ass action and zany comedy.
Officer Downe is a new and very twisted take on the classic superhero story and audiences will get to experience it first hand on November 18.
