The Rebel Alliance is on its last legs and survives on nothing more than sips of hope as the Galactic Empire ready their super-weapon, The Death Star, in the final trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. But one group of brave rebels is ready to do all they can to stop them.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Caught in the crossfire of a galactic civil war, young smuggler Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) is recused by the Rebel Alliance and offered a chance to enlist in a top secret mission. Along with a rag-tag crew of other Alliance officers, lead by Captain Cassian Ander (Diego Luna), Jyn leads the mission to infiltrate and steal the plans to the Death Star, a new weapon that if realised could destroy countless systems across the galaxy.
The trailer is packed with fantastic action set pieces and buzzes with the speed and intensity of the best war movies. Not only do we have epic land battles between Alliance fighters and the Empire’s black-clad Death Troopers, but a significant aerial space battle will also take place as Jyn and her team infiltrate the Death Star in disguise. Rogue One will also introduce new canon into the Star Wars Universe through the appearance of the mystical planet of Jedha, a holy world directly linked to the power of the force.
Finally, Imperial overlord Darth Vader makes his appearance in two unique clips from the trailer. Vader appears to be overseeing the construction of the project by Ben Mendelsohn’s Orson Krennic, director of Advanced Weapons System for the Empire, who is obsessed with the super-weapon’s completion. We’re sure that before Rogue One finishes, Jyn and Vader are likely to come face-to-face in a tantalising scene.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will take audiences to a galaxy far, far away on December 15 in Australia and New Zealand and December 16 in the US and UK.
