Television veteran Christopher Meloni (SVU: Special Victims Unit, True Blood) is ready to take on his next project with a television adaptation of celebrated comic book writer Grant Morrison’s Happy, set to air on SyFy.
Deadline confirmed that Meloni will star as Nick Sax, a former decorated police officer who suffered a fall from grace and now works as a hired killer for the mob. But after a particularly bad night, Sax suffers an overdose and begins to hallucinate. His hallucinations soon lead him to become friends with a tiny blue-winged imaginary horse named Happy, who is excessively positive and wants to help Nick turn his life around.
While Happy’s premise is particularly bonkers, Morrison’s original graphic novel is a compelling read and is packed with everything from the imaginary cartoon creatures to a psychotic Santa Clause. It’s definitely a gamble for SyFy, but the channel has been crafting some great content lately with shows like 12 Monkeys and The Expanse, and Happy could be another stellar addition to its line-up.
