The U.S. Navy SEALs are currently Hollywood’s go-to heroes with this secretive unit being profiled in major films including Zero Dark Thirty, American Sniper, Captain Phillips and Suicide Squad. Now the most elite of this unit, the mythical Seal Team Six, will make their way onto the small screen in the History Channel’s ambitious new action-drama series Six.
Told in both real time and flashback, the new series follows the unit as they are dispatched to rescue one of their former commanders after he is kidnapped while working as a private military contractor in Africa. And while there’s sure to be plenty of gunfights and explosions, Six will also devote an equal amount of time to the complex personal lives of the SEALs and their wives back in America.
The producers appear to have gotten the details down perfectly with authentic costuming and weapon design, and they even sent their troop of actors to a mock BUDs training camp to give them a taste of what it meant to be SEALs. Barry Sloane, who portrays Six’s chief protagonist John ‘Bear’ Graves, described it as the toughest experience of his life, but like the rest of the cast considered it a vital part of getting into character and as a way of paying respect to the real SEALs themselves.
Six will be headlined by a great collection of new acting talent including Sloane, Kyle Schmidt, Edwin Hodge, Juan Pablo Raba, Brianne Davis and Nadine Velazquez, while TV and film veteran Walton Goggins (The Hateful Eight, Justified) will star as their kidnapped former commander Richard “Rip” Taggart.
Six is set to premiere next year on January 18, 2017.
