Denzel Washington is making a serious play for Oscar glory with his evocative drama Fences, which has just released a new trailer.
Here’s the synopsis:
Set in the 1950s in Pittsburgh, Fences follows the life of former baseball player and now waste collector Troy Maxson (Washington), who is embittered with his life choices and now has to come to terms with what they mean for his family.
Washington directs and stars in this big screen adaptation of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright August Wilson’s work. His performance as Maxson appears to be driven by a bottled up rage that has finally risen to the surface, which causes him to lash out against his wife and teenage son.
While it’s clear that Washington could be in the Academy’s spotlight, so too is his co-star Viola Davis, who portrays Maxson’s long-suffering wife Rose. Davis’ performance is exceedingly raw, and the emotion she brings to the screen will deeply affect audiences.
Fences will be released in cinemas on December 25, 2016.
