Everyone who knows me knows that I hold Kurt Sutter’s Sons of Anarchy on a pedestal, so I’m pumped that his upcoming series Mayans MC, has now been greenlit to go to pilot at FX.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Sutter and FX are now working on a pilot episode for Mayans MC, that will chronicle the activities of the Mexican-American motorcycle club who had a deep history with SAMCRO, and who were a mainstay of Sons of Anarchy as both adversary and ally.
The pilot will be set in a post-Jax Teller world and will follow EZ Reyes, a new prospect in the Mayans MC charter based out of the Cali-Mexico border who seeks a way to get his revenge on the cartel, while also looking to satisfy a developing love triangle.
While it still remains to be seen whether Emilio Rivera will return as Mayans president Marcus Alvarez full time, I’m fairly certain that Sutter would bring him in as a frequent guest star given his importance to the club and its hierarchy. We could also potentially see more of Danny Trejo’s cartel enforcer Romeo Parada, and there’s also a chance that SAMCRO could return for brief appearances under the presidency of Filip ‘Chibs’ Telford (Tommy Flanagan), given their strategic alliance with The Mayans.
Casting is yet to get underway, but with Sutter’s talent as a showrunner, I’m sure we’ll see some impressive developments very soon.
