Emma Watson finds herself caught up in the intensity of ‘The Circle’

Silicon Valley is the dreamland destination for every millennial on the planet, but James Ponsoldt’s new thriller The Circle shines a very dark light on its squeaky clean surface.

Here’s the synopsis:

After gifted young computer programmer Mae Holland (Emma Watson) finds herself in a position at The Circle, the world’s leading technology company, she thinks all of her dreams have come true. But she soon discovers that not all is as wonderful as it was made out to be, and that The Circle’s quest for knowledge could have deadly consequences for the entire world.

This first trailer is an intense watch, and it’s interesting to see a focus being placed on the giant technological companies that have become such a vital part of all our lives. Watson appears to give a great performance as fish out of water Mae, and is joined by John Boyega as Kalden, another young programmer who has picked up on something unsettling within The Circle. Hollywood legend Tom Hanks also appears as The Circle’s founder and CEO Bailey, whose good intentions hide a sinister megalomania.

The Circle will be released on April 28, 2017.
