2017 is going to be a big year for Emma Watson. Not only is she headlining the big screen adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, but she’s also stepping things up in her career with the chilling tech thriller The Circle.
Here’s the official synopsis:
After gifted young computer programmer Mae Holland (Emma Watson) finds herself in a position at The Circle, the world’s leading technology company, she thinks all of her dreams have come true. But she soon discovers that not all is as wonderful as it was made out to be and that The Circle’s quest for knowledge could have deadly consequences for the entire world.
A new trailer has now been released, giving us a better look at the dodgy circumstances Watson’s Mae finds herself in.
The new trailer presents the classic narrative of a talented dreamer who wants to do good in the world, but stumbles upon a dark secret at her dream job.
Watson definitely holds her own next to Hollywood veteran Tom Hanks as Bailey, the founder of The Circle, and who bears a striking resemblance to Steve Jobs. John Boyega also puts in a great turn as gifted young programmer Kaldan, a mysterious engineer who is responsible for the upkeep of The Circle’s vast code, and is now worried by the alarming presence of the programme’s self-learning ability.
If you’re looking for a nail-biting thriller then you’ll definitely find it in The Circle, which will be released in cinemas on April 28 in the US and UK, and on May 25 in New Zealand and Australia.
