While Riverdale has been the teen show on everyone’s minds this year, Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why is likely to takeover quickly, thanks to its disturbing premise and top grade talent.
Adapted from the 2007 novel by Jay Asher, the series tells the story of Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette), whose classmate and crush, Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford), committed suicide. Two weeks after her death, he finds a box his with name on it lying on his porch, which contains cassette tapes recorded by Hannah, explaining 13 reasons why she killed herself.
A new featurette has been released for the upcoming series, featuring the core cast offering a rundown on the show’s themes and their importance.
“It’s about how every single person, whether what they did seems small or large, how all of it together kind of builds up in certain people and can lead them to do something like take their own life,” says Miles Heizer, who plays Alex.
It’s clear from the featurette how proud the cast is to be a part of a show that tackles such a heavy topic. “I hope with this story that more people will A: talk about the issues that we’re presenting, and B: that they will also understand that there’s life after whatever they’re feeling . There is life after high school, there is life after that exam, there is life after that party, that photo, or that boy. There’s always going to be more,” Katherine Langford (Hannah) explains.
13 Reasons Why will be released March 31 on Netflix.
